Axolotl Information This species will eat live earthworms, waxworms, frozen bloodworms, salmon pellets, and live fish. Interestingly, they can regenerate limbs, and even brain material, which is why axolotls are regularly studied by researchers around the world. Axolotls originated from just two high elevation lakes in Mexico, but they are currently critically endangered in the wild. They can live for 10-15 years in captivity, and are very low maintenance pets. You'll want to keep your's in a fully aquatic aquarium or tank with plastic (or live) plants and a gravel (larger stones) or bare-bottomed substrate. Your fertilized eggs will arrive safely, and should be put into a shallow container of water at or below room temperature. 68F is ideal, but a few degrees difference above or below this mark is fine.
